18-year-old will have billion of Apple

This is a story with two news: a 18-year-old american will have a billion dollars in compensation from Apple for a wrongful arrest. And the story that Apple uses facial recognition in its stores in an attempt to stop the butikstyverier.

The last is at least as interesting as the bringing of the action, since Apple is known for its fierce defense of the right to privacy. The defence does not however apply to merchant customers, according to the suit, are both monitored and recorded, if they visit one of the company's many stores.

And the record can go horribly wrong when Apple and their security experts feed the it systems with the wrong information.

That was exactly what happened to 18-year-old Ousmane Bah, when he by mistake got connected to his personal data together with the image of a completely different man, who allegedly is behind a series of thefts from the Apple stores, writes Bloomberg.

the Problem for the young students is the fact that his id has been misused by the real thief. Therefore, it was not the Bahs picture, which the police got from Apple as they are notified the case.

Yet he ended up being arrested in november, but quickly released when the police could see that Ousmane was not the real perpetrator.

But the error must now cost Apple dearly, considers the student and his lawyers. They have just sued Apple and its security firm, Security Industry Specialists, with a demand for a milliarderstatning.

It is according to them the price, as the big techfirma and the subcontractor should pay to monitor and report the wrong customers for shoplifting.
