The tallest, largest and most expensive penthouse in US history is for sale

The promoter now aspires to add a new record with the sale of his penthouse for a price never seen in the history of the United States. The triplex meets all the characteristics to become a unique real estate transaction.

It is considered the tallest house in the world and the largest in the Big Apple. It rises 475 meters above the ground, from the 129th to the 131st floor of the tower. The interior is divided into a total of 1,625 square meters, a space that could only compete with a chalet on the outskirts. The never seen in Manhattan.

This real estate gem has just come onto the market for 250 million dollars (250 million euros). If the sale ends up closing at that figure, the price would top the previous record of $238 million paid in 2019 by Citadel hedge fund owner Ken Griffin for an apartment in the neighboring Central Park South tower.

The steel and glass tower is located at 217 West 57th Street, two blocks from Central Park, where billionaires compete for spectacular views. It is one of the so-called "slender" skyscrapers, high-rise, extra-thin and ultra-high residential towers built in recent years that have reshaped the Manhattan skyline.

The house has a total of 23 rooms, including seven bedrooms, two kitchens and nine bathrooms with nine-meter-high ceilings overlooking Manhattan. A spectacular spiral staircase connects the three floors from top to bottom.

The top floor is designed to be the "tallest ballroom on the planet," according to the Serhant real estate ad. And it has a 426-square-meter outdoor terrace overlooking Manhattan with views of the city, Central Park and the Hudson and East rivers.

A real mansion in the sky. "It's so high up you're above the noise," selling agent Ryan Serhant told The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the deal. "When you're on the terrace, you don't hear anything, maybe a plane, but that's it. It's so serene. It's magical. There's never been anything like it," he added.

Serhant is one of the few who have been able to enjoy its interior. Discretion is a key factor for potential buyers. For this reason, the real estate company has only revealed two photographs of the attic, one showing the interior staircase and another with views of one of the rooms without further details.

As for potential buyers, it's all baseless gambling. "The nine-figure club - those who have a fortune between 100 and 1,000 million dollars - is a special group and now they also seek to own nine-figure properties," said the agent.

As is customary in real estate transactions for these exclusive properties, the building's developer, Gary Barnett, founder of Extell Development, likened purchasing the penthouse to purchasing a work of art. "There are a lot of paintings that cost 100 million and even 200 million," he said. "When you compare that to almost 500 meters of steel, brick and glass on top of the world, this seems like a relative bargain," he concluded.
