An ophthalmologist for 1.2 million inhabitants. As with many other health problems, prevention is the watchword, even for the eye diseases and conditions. In northern Uganda, however, in particular in the districts of Kitgum, Lamwo and Arua – involved in the project – there is only one ophthalmologist for a population of 1.2 million inhabitants, in addition to the 190,000 refugees from South Sudan.
