The idea has already started, as the audience begins its place. On the stage the Opera house the dancers to practice and dancers pirouettes and jumps, the light is already set up, costumes and Make-up sitting perfectly – also in the auditorium.
The choreography "Bella Figura", which premiered in 1995, asks for the beginning and the end: when starts the performance? When you warm up, as suggested by the piece first, or only, when the curtain opens? You began with the first step of a young Mare in the ballet Studio or at home, when we get ready to go to the theatre? Our life is not a single idea, in the course of which we slip into new roles and costumes, and death – perhaps – a final round of applause?
Four contrasting pieces
Ji?í Kylián, one of the greatest choreographers of our time and long-time Director of the Nederlands Dans Theater, is concerned in his pieces since the 1970s with the big questions of life, love and death. In "Bella Figura" is also our concept of beauty.
In March, the then 72-year-old Czech will be included in the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he is the new (for him?) created seat for dance and choreography inherent in the will. To honor this, is the ostensible occasion of the four-part ballet evening at the Zurich Opera house.
in Most cases, kylián's works will be shown in combination with pieces of other choreographers, though hardly a has such a diverse, varied, and characteristic language of dance as he is. Four completely contrasting pieces that night kylián's creative wealth. Century, we can see that the beauty goes far beyond the smooth image. As always, the movements in the case of Ji?í Kylián, even if they are abrupt and angular. The dancers of the Zurich ballet make a "good case", as required by the title of the piece – all the poetic Yen Han, whose dance experience also brings tender emotions in every fiber of your body.

Then follows up with "Stepping Stones" (premiere in 1991) kylián's homage To pay homage to the Tradition: the music of John Cage and Anton Webern, the ballerinas on top of the classical forms of the ballet – not without the danced figures, while breaking it requires the further development of the art. Elena Vostro Tina, the tall Russian dancer, because she masters the balancing act between old-school and contemporary movement language with the greatest of ease.
As in all the pieces of the Czech Grand master of the "Partnering is also impressive here": In the alternating Pas de deux and Pas de trois the dancers complicated balancing acts to overcome, as you were a walk – in sometimes animal configuration. The three cat characters fit in the Background, the endure with eyes closed, the Bustle of people: unaffected by the eternal course of history, which is also in the dance will always go on and on.
After the break, roll, fresh Apples on the stage. The Kafkaesque nightmare "Sweet Dreams" to the "Six pieces for orchestra" op. 6b, in which Anton Webern processed the death of his mother, was founded in 1990. He is one of kylián's "Black&White ballets" – and Black for both the stage as well as the dark movement dominated metaphors. Since the arms and legs cross in absolute denial that women sit on the men in the neck and the crisp Apples remind more than once of sin and the lost Paradise.

But what is a Kylián evening would be without his typical sense of Humor? This sparkles even in the dimmest productions and at the conclusion of the ballet in the evening, he's allowed values, abound strong. The Zurich ballet dances with great delight and the pure nonsense of the "Six dances" (KV 571) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. You mean to hear the mad Laugh of Tom Hulce from Milos Forman's Film "Amadeus" or read the frivolous "Cousin-letters" by the composer. There is gehupft and nudged, until the icing falls spray from the wigs.
After the previous three pieces have shone in the deepest recesses of the soul, the spirited banter like a liberation. Poetry and humanity triumph over oppression: kylián's most important message accompanied the enthusiastic premiere audience on the way home.
