Los Angeles wants to ban sale of fur

Los Angeles wants to ban the sale of fur coats and other fur products. After a vote of the city Council of the West coast metropolis of the sale is to enter the ban in January 2021. Only a member of the 14-member Board had voted against it. A more formal round of voting to move to, as CBS reported Tuesday.

The future ban on the sale relates to new fur products, including fur-trimmed leather goods, hats and shoes. Also, the manufacture and trade is prohibited in the city of Los Angeles. Second Hand shops may, however, continue to offer second-hand fur products. Animal welfare groups welcomed the new regulation. Los Angeles is the largest US city that has decided such a ban. The metropolis is following the example of smaller cities in California such as San Francisco, Berkeley and West Hollywood. (nlu/sda)
