Fun, Prestige, or chance. Reasons why people choose a particular activity to be your Hobby, are many and varied, and at times diffuse. Pius Schmid, 68 years of age, from Gümligen near Bern, relies on rationality: "A Hobby makes sense, if the income therefrom is larger than the invested effort."
In his case, he fills in the formula as follows: Knowledge, the spirit to revive and alone time to spend against, three days in Law per week. Schmid's result: The Hobby is worth it.
"For science, I have no talent. Politics and history interest me."Pius Schmid, retired
Forty years old Schmid was, as he thought for the first Time, as he wants after Retirement life. At that time, he taught at the technical University in Freiburg, German and Foreign, his second place to the study of German language and literature and a Job as a Journalist at a news Agency.
Although the question was once a thought experiment possible, and only three years ago, more specifically, was the reply both times: Back to the Uni. With the second diploma. The tray is quickly chosen: "For science, I have no talent. Politics and history interest me Jus a cut point of it."
At his first day at the University of Pius Schmid recalls: "In the lecture on private law sat a young man next to me. He did not venture to ask the Professor a question. So I made it." He noticed that as a Senior under 340 twenty-year-old, doesn't bother him. Negative never responded to him. "If I betray my Fellow students my age and use them often in this fashion the words: "cool"."

Less cool was a successful one for Pius Schmid the second Semester. In April 2018 he suffered a heart attack. Permanent damage, he is wearing none of them, however, he will need for each activity much more time than before. The Lectures he attended after the heart attack, the tests he wrote. "It became too much for me." He moved about his Status from the regularly enrolled students seeking a degree, to the "listener". As such, he must listen to all Lectures, no exams to write.
Although he is no longer under the testing pressure, Pius Schmid, a lot of time in his studies. After the Lectures, he rushes to the next blue Train to go home. He learns. The loved one in the law library in the underground of the main building: "I feel very comfortable, because a lot of light gets into the rooms and good Newspapers lie." Less praise left over for the rest of the infrastructure of the building: "On the toilet the warm water to wash your hands."
"I think the level of General education is lower than in the past."Pius Schmid, retired
On days without Unibesuch Schmid emigrated with his wife in the mountains or traveling to the lake of Geneva, where the daughter lives with her family. "For the children's hats I've been leaving the lecture to be cancelled." For such cases, he appreciates the possibility of documentation of the Uniplattform on the Internet to download. "So what, it was during my first degree yet."
Pius Schmid notes a further difference to his Unierlebnis as a young man: So how would the students formulate their questions, he believes that their level of General education is deeper than that of his Generation. "This is not a rating, but a statement of fact." He treasures it, with the young people to communicate, instead of only with those of his Generation. A Clique, he has not connected, but: "In every lecture other people sit."
This is the fact that Schmid keeps to the regular study plan. Since he is "the listener", he visited only what is pleasing to him. The Lectures on the economy, and the code of criminal procedure, he leaves out right – "too many people, too small rooms, bad air". He focuses on the history of law and philosophy, and Roman law. So he makes sure that his formula comes up. That the yield is greater than the effort.
