Former top goalkeeper has ALS

The former Sevilla and FC Barcelona goalkeeper Juan Carlos Unzué has been diagnosed with ALS, writes the Spanish newspaper Marca.

Unzué, according to the newspaper, at a different time to tell you more about how he intends to take up the fight with the disease, although he knows that there is no known cure.

He was in the 1980's and 90's one of the best Spanish goalkeeper, and he has more than 200 matches on the CV for Sevilla and also two seasons on the back for FC Barcelona, where he died as a young man stood in the shadow of the legendary Andoni Zubizarreta.

He was also inside of the Spanish national youth teams, even though the debut of the A-team never came.

Promising coach
In recent years, 53-year-old Unzué stepped into the coach-stage, where he has been assistant under Luis Enrique for both Celta Vigo and FC Barcelona.

Here he had a very good influence on the team, where he among other things did wonders at barca's handling of set pieces.

After Enriques break with his old club in 2017 has Unzué even made himself as the head coach of the first Celta Vigo and since Girona, however without much success any of the locations.

He has also had short stays in the Segunda Division-teams like Racing Santander and Numancia, as he has been goalkeeping coach at FC Barcelona.

ALS which stands for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a disease that affects the central nervous system, and which eventually leads to paralysis.

the Disease is rare, but deadly, and strikes most frequently in people over 50 years. With medication the disease can be alleviated, but an outright cure does not exist.

It is the disease, which, among other things, the Stephen Hawking part of.

Marca emphasizes how Unzué leaves a good impression in all places because of its industriousness, both as a player and as a coach.
