It is possible to prohibit the entry of dogs in public places? Very often the owners of animals (and not) wonder if dogs and other pets can get in bars, in shops or in public facilities. At the national level, the Regulation of veterinary policy provides that dogs may be carried in the streets or in other places open to the public only if they are kept on a leash or have a muzzle on. More recently, the ministry of Health has validated the manual of the Fipe (Italian Federation of public concerns), in which he states that is allowed access to the dogs in areas open to the public bars and restaurants, provided that they are leashed and muzzled. The dog must not come into contact with food: it remains, therefore, the prohibition to introduce dogs or other pets on the premises where you prepare, manipulate, treat, and preserve food (for example in the kitchen).

In this regard, the ministry has specified, with two successive notes (no. 11359/2017 and no. 23712/2017), inside or outside of the exercises of the retail sale of food, can be provided specific rooms or areas in which welcome animals. In addition, in the case where there are local regulations that authorize the entry of the animals in the spaces of sale, the operator must ensure that animals cannot come into direct or indirect contact with foods, both bulk and packaged food, which must always be to ensure hygiene and safety. Therefore, there is an absolute ban on the entry of dogs in the shops, but must be complied with special caution in those in which substances are present in food.
