In the beginning of June was the plan, that the diversity should be celebrated in the middle of the city, as has been the case each year since 2012.

At the moment, large parts of Denmark, as most of the world closed down, and the people behind Aarhus Pride have therefore already chosen to accept the consequences of the situation.

'We just do not believe that in two months or may gather thousands of people in Aarhus and keep a megafest afterwards. Since 2012, Aarhus Pride each year in early June and bathed the city in iridescence with strong support from volunteers, donors, sponsors, partners and the municipality.

- It is always a difficult decision when one chooses to cancel an event, when 10,000 participants, and we know that very many people have been looking forward to Aarhus Pride 2020.

We know also that we are doing priden for a reason. It is not just because it is fun, but it is, because there is a need for it, and for that we can celebrate the people who take a proper stint in everyday life. So we are extremely sorry that we had to reach this decision, she says.

Mona Linaa says that because of the current situation could not see any other way out than to cancel this year's event.

She points, among other things, that there is a lot of other things in Aarhus during the summer and fall, and that there are also other pride that should be taken into account. Therefore, it would be difficult to find a weekend that could fit, if it all should just be postponed for later in the year. Also even though it has cost to cancel.

- The economic impact we have not been given. It's about people's woe and weal, and we must keep our fingers crossed that the economy holds, " she says, and affirms that they are already looking forward to Aarhus Pride 2021.

- It will be our tenth anniversary, so it must be in the house. It is we, and we look forward instead to put more energy in 2020, says Mona Linaa.
