Aspromonte, the land of the past, when the Film investigates the inequalities

ROME – The film by Mimmo Calopresti, "Aspromonte, the land of the past", produced by Federica and Fulvio Lucisano (which appears in the final scenes), she climbs in the last of the mountains of Sila, the more rugged Aspromonte, yet close to the sea, and the complaint as to the lack of infrastructure, electricity, assistance, can remove every form of dignity, in every time and in every part of the world in which the exploitation of man by man, becomes a reason of struggle for the liberation.

A way to not die: the story of the film . It is 1951, the war had just ended. If Italy is in tatters, Africo is the last spit before of incivility: there is no light, nor a road linking the towns on the coast, nor a doctor. When a woman dies in childbirth because the doctor is not coming, and explodes with anger. Led by Peppe (Francesco Colella), the inhabitants of Africo decide to build the road by themselves. But there are those who are opposed to: the mayor of the Navy (Francesco Siciliano), who despises and ignores the poverty, and Don Totò (Sergio Rubini), who wants to keep the power in the territory. The fight gets rough and the vicissitudes of the construction of the road become desire for redemption. “In my films, I often dwell on suggestions - says Calopresti - here, however, I have dedicated myself to the facts: the need to build a road”. The photography, the scenes, show pictures that show to the French Realism of Delacroix or Courbet, and the scenes of masses of calabrian recall Pellizza da Volpedo.

Marcello Source, the poet. The film Calopresti, adapted from the novel Via the Aspromonte (2017), Rubbettino Editore), Pietro Criaco, is set in the first world war, but it could be today, for her look tragic, yet sweet, on inequality. Where an air space is provided by a teacher, a blonde (Valeria Bruni Tedeschi), of Como, who speaks a perfect Italian: an alien in Aspromonte.
