Awesome sequence from the mountains of Cameroon is selected as an entry to the "African Mirror", the brilliant documentary by Mischa Hedinger about René Gardi was Born 1909, a kind of Bernhard Grzimek Switzerland.
Grzimek was gone to wild animals, Gardi to noble Savage. From 1948 until the year 2000, shortly before his death, he showed the confederates in the television, what he saw in Africa or what disappeared, while he was looking: "The suspicious Stranger who does not want to come any closer." The colonial charm of the Stranger, the Switzerland part was only as an onlooker, and Gardi confessed: "Sometimes I wish we Swiss had any colony in the tropics."
Africa scenes and the office world in contrast
In his "dream country of Africa" filmed Gardi everyday life and festivals, "singing and singing, all kinds of magic, blood sacrifice". Porters dragged his equipment, French colonial officials helped the Swiss in the Digging of taxes, women, water jugs wore, he put "a Fünfernötli" to film "alone".
