Abuse allegations against nearly 400 priests in Illinois

In the U.S. state of Illinois, nearly 400 Catholic priests and lay people in public with abuse allegations faced. The Church does not want to designate the cases by name, action legal representatives.

The law office of Jeff Anderson & Associates, specializing in clergy abuse, published on Wednesday (local time) in Chicago, a list of 395 names. The Suspects are working or have worked in the Archdiocese of Chicago and five other dioceses. "The data reveals the frightening extent, in the priest, children up to the present day, sexually abuse," said the Report.

last year, a similar Report of the attorney General of the state of Pennsylvania had branded hundreds of clergy and laity as alleged pedophiles. Most of the Offences were too long to prosecute. The report, sent new shock waves through the Catholic Church and ultimately led to the resignation of the Archbishop of Washington, cardinal Donald Wuerl.

Church rejects allegations

after several States had taken up the investigation, more and more victims came forward. In the state of West Virginia, it came a few days ago to a charge against a full diocese, and a former Bishop. In Illinois, attorney Anderson accused the Church authorities, to make the cases public.

The dioceses rejected the allegations. The diocese of Joliet released a Statement in which she makes it clear that all known cases are reported with robust allegations to law enforcement authorities. Similarly, the Archdiocese of Chicago said. (Dec/sda)
