The choice of the Danish capital to present a French car, designed in Paris and to be manufactured at the group's plant in Villaverde (Madrid) for the whole world, makes more sense than it seems. In a good handful of European markets, in which electrification is already implemented, the 100% electric version will be marketed exclusively. Among them is not Spain, but Portugal, Great Britain, Austria, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, Holland and the Nordic countries, including Denmark.

The new Citroën C4 X will have gasoline and diesel engines and a 100% electric version, called ë-C4 X, which will be the only one for many countries in central and northern Europe. It will begin to be marketed from next autumn in the different markets and that is when the price will be known.

The main originality of the new Citroën C4 X is that it flees from the design of the conventional SUVs that have invaded the market, seeking its own and different line. It is a five-door saloon with a very low roof, like a coupé, and with a slightly raised body thanks to large diameter wheels, almost 70 centimeters. Short overhangs and a slightly raised occupant position complete the design. A silhouette, similar to the Renault Arkana, that seeks to get closer to the BMW or Mercedes coupe SUVs, a body that is beginning to be a trend and that seems designed for bored drivers of massive SUVs.

Halfway between the C4 and the C5 X, it is 4.60 meters long and shares the Stellantis CMP platform and 2.67 meter wheelbase with the former. With a very spacious interior in the front and rear seats and a huge 510-liter trunk, it seems perfect for transporting people, VTC or transfer services in city centers, where circulation is limited to 0-emission vehicles.

The electric motor has 100 kW of power (equivalent to 136 hp) and a maximum torque of 260 Nm available from the start. It achieves acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds, in Sport mode (you can also choose ECO or Normal mode), and can reach a top speed of 150 km/h. It carries lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 50 kWh and 400 Volts, which gives it a range of up to 360 km in the WTLP cycle. In addition to being plugged into the mains, the battery can be recharged thanks to regenerative braking and motor retention. In ECO mode that retention is greater. The battery has a guarantee on 70% of its capacity in eight years or 160,000 km.

With a 100 kW fast charger, 80% is recharged in 30 minutes, in 7.5 hours at a 7.4 kW charging point and in five hours at 11 kW. It could be charged in a domestic socket in case of extreme need. Under the floor of the trunk there is a hole to store the cables.

The rest of the range of engines, which are going to be marketed in the Middle East, Africa and in some European markets, such as Spain, are the already proven and efficient PureTech gasoline 100 hp, with six-speed manual gearbox, and 130 CV with eight-speed automatic transmission. The range is completed with a 130 hp diesel engine, also with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The geometry of the roof, which can optionally be panoramic with electric opening, achieves good aerodynamics, with a Cx of 0.29 that helps reduce consumption. Inside there is ample space in the rear seats for the knees and three seats, although the central one is a little narrower, with a width of 1.3 meters at shoulder height, 1.4 at the level of the shoulders. elbows and the backs are slightly reclined. The fall of the roof penalizes taller people a bit.

Everything inside is designed for the maximum comfort of the occupants, which confirms its vocation as a vehicle for transporting people. Citroën has equipped this model in the front and rear seats with its Advanced Comfort seats, softer and more comfortable for long trips. They can all be heated and the front ones incorporate the massage function. The interior is partly upholstered in Alcantara fabric, which combines a sporty feel with a pleasant touch.

In front of the passenger there are three glove boxes, a conventional lower one, a sliding intermediate one in which papers or a tablet fit and a small upper one that is a support to place the tablet, a very practical system that other models of the chevron brand already use. .

To further improve ride comfort, Citroën has equipped the new C4 X with progressive hydraulic shock absorbers, the 21st century version of the famous Citroën suspension systems of the last century. It is a system that absorbs and dissipates energy thanks to a system that uses two hydraulic stops at the ends of each shock absorber. In this way, it is possible not to notice the irregularities of the pavement.

The new Citroën uses LED exterior and interior lighting. In the bodywork, the front and rear lights are enveloping and in the interior a relaxed atmosphere is sought. And in the interior design, it recovers some ingenious elements from other models of the brand, such as the support for a Tablet integrated into the dashboard in front of the passenger, on a large sliding glove box.

At the top of the center console is the surface for wireless charging of the phone, which leaves the lower recess for other objects and also has USB ports. The central 10-inch high-definition screen can be personalized and allows a wireless connection with mobile phones. The voice recognition system reacts to the command 'Hello Citroën'.
