Allergic to the Sunlight?

It occurs mainly in those who are not regularly exposed to the sun. However, it tends to disappear when the person begins to expose himself more frequently;
  • Solar urticaria: appears a few minutes after sun exposure and is characterized by large, red papules accompanied by itching;
  • Chemical photosensitivity: it can occur due to the taking of certain medications (antidepressants, antimalarials, for acne, etc.) or the application of certain cosmetics and is triggered when we are exposed to the sun. It may present several symptoms such as redness, inflammation, peeling, blisters, etc.

The important thing is to prevent!

Prevention is the keyword ... If you have a tendency to develop allergies to the sun, the ideal would be to avoid sun exposure or to wear clothing with sun protection, however as it is difficult to avoid the sun, particularly in a country like ours, it is essential to the following recommendations:

  • avoid sun exposure between 11 am and 4 pm (when the radiation is strongest);
  • privilege temporary and progressive exhibitions, especially at the beginning of the summer;
  • wear a wide-brimmed hat, long-sleeved clothing, and sunglasses;
  • bet on suitable sunscreens, hypoallergenic with high protection index and against UVA and UVB radiation;
  • frequently renew the protector's application and in the appropriate amount (½ teaspoon for each arm, face, and neck and 1 teaspoon for each leg, trunk, and back).

All of these recommendations should be followed by the general population, even if there is no photosensitivity.
