Protons for treating the ventricular arrhythmia, the first surgery in Pavia

A patient with a ventricular arrhythmia has been treated with a beam of protons that hit, in a targeted manner and with a reduced impact on the delicate surrounding tissues, the part of the heart responsible for the irregular heartbeats. It is the first time you run an intervention of this kind, developed in collaboration with the Fondazione Irccs Policlinico San Matteo, was performed at the Cnao of Pavia as a treatment on a 73-year old patient suffering from a severe form of dilated cardiomyopathy.

The man was transferred to Pavia from a hospital in milan where he was hospitalized for ventricular arrhythmias and repeated cardiac arrests. After the intervention, executed on the 13th of December, was kept under close monitoring at the St. Matthew: a few days ago was discharged from Cardiology in good general conditions, good remuneration for the cardiovascular and it is possible to transfer it at a department for the rehabilitation.
