Don't gain weight walking alone is not enough
A BEAUTIFUL walk may do well to the mood and health, especially that of the heart. But to lose weight, or just to stay in shape, serves well to another. This is demonstrated by a study carried out by researchers at Brigham Young University, in the United States, according to which, even surpassing the famous 10 thousand steps per day recommended for good health do not get special benefits, at least if the purpose is to lose weight. The study was just published in the Journal of Obesity.

The amount of steps per day To see if the walking has effects on body weight, the researchers involved 120 students arrived at the university, who were asked to do for six days a week, 10, 12,5 thousand or 15 thousand steps per day, for a total period of six months. To all the participants, it was also given a pedometer, a tool that will measure the progress made through the movement of the hips, to be worn for 24 hours a day. In the meantime, the researchers monitored the calorie intake that the body weight of the students, in order to then assess whether to exceed the threshold of 10 thousand steps per day (in 25% increments) could prevent the increase of the weight of the participants.
Not just At the end of the study, the researchers noticed that, regardless of the amount of steps per day, students have reported an average increase in weight of about a pound and a half. A normal situation, seen that on average, american students take a few pounds in the first few years of university, which shows, however, the ineffectiveness of the walk to keep under control the weight. “Not always, exercise is the most effective way to lose weight,” says study author Bruce Bailey, a professor of exercise sciences at Brigham Young University. “The walk might be advantageous to increase the amount of physical activity, but our study has shown that alone does not help to maintain or prevent weight gain”.
