She was living a fast life in New York City long before Julia Fox became Kanye West’s new girlfriend.
The actress from "Uncut Gems" spoke out in a podcast interview about her past encounters with the law and drug overdoses. She also discussed her entry into BDSM as a dominatrix.
Fox spoke to Alex Cooper, "Call Her Daddy" host, in an episode that dropped Tuesday night. She recalled a time when she was desperate for money and found "the adult section" on Craigslist. Fox says that she was uncomfortable having sex with strangers, but was lured by an advertisement for dominatrix positions that would pay up to $1,000 per day and involve "no sex, nudity."
"I met this insanely white man wearing a long black trench coat. I was asked to write a sadistic BDSM fantasy for him. He loved it and I did. He hired me immediately. "I was just naturally good at this," Fox, 32, said.
Fox explained that being a dominatrix was "similar to being a stripper." Fox explained that her new source for income was at a "dungeon" and she got her first acting experience.
There are a few around Manhattan, and in other areas of New York. It's legal. It's downstairs and you'll find all the different rooms. A medical room was available for a nurse/doctor fantasy. There was also a torture room and another type of chamber. It's almost like role-playing, it's similar to acting. She said that when people ask how you got started in acting, it's really like the Dungeon. I would have to improv multiple time per day and on very short notice."
Fox said she had never sex with dominatrixes. Fox said that there was "definitely a lot verbal communication" and "tease, denial" used. It helped her explore her sexuality, she said.
They could kiss my feet, they could sit on my stomach with my panties, but they won't ever be good enough to my vagina. She said that it was very important.
Fox's New York City lifestyle was also problematic for her. Fox said that she tried marijuana for the first time in sixth or seventh grade. She tried heroin in high school for the first time and described her time with drugs as "private".
"I did it secretly and would put it on a blunt I would smoke to my face. She said that she wouldn't share the information. "I didn’t know that I was playing with fire. It's amazing that I haven't done this in so many years. It is not something I would recommend.
Fox claims she continues to smoke marijuana, but she hasn't had a thought about it since her friend died from heroin overdose in 2019.
West's girlfriend, who is now her boyfriend, revealed that she had overdosed on drugs several times before and described those experiences as her "rock bottom."
"There have been many. The last, and worst, was on my birthday. It was very sad because my sister was there, and she was sober, and the entire party was destroyed. The whole party was shocked when I fell to the ground. Fox said that it was an incredibly awakening moment. Fox did not give a year for this to have occurred.
She said that it was a probation officer who helped Fox quit using drugs. She recalled being indicted together for grand larceny. She claimed she doesn't remember details like which federal court she was convicted of grand larceny in. This is because she would either forget to appear or be high from the previous night.
"I was on probation for three years, and that saved my life. It's like I'm now grounded. My probation officer gave me a drug test and I was positive for marijuana. It was a big deal. Am I going to prison for a whole year? What will my probation officer do? She provided me with a very intense drug program. That was it. It was a miracle that it didn't get worse for me," she stated.
Fox and West first became famous late last year when they met in Miami for New Years Eve. She wrote a short excerpt for Interview magazine. Since then, she's been called his "muse."
She wrote, "His energy makes it so much fun to be around." He made me and my friends laugh, dance, and smile all night. We decided to keep the energy up and fly back to New York City for 'Slave Play.
