Caitriona Balfe could be considered for Oscar, as her proud parents claim that she will always be their little "scamp".

For her role in Belfast, both Caitriona Balfe (actress) and Kenneth Brannagh (director) are expected to be nominated.

The Monaghan native could win the award for best actress. Kenneth Brannagh, his director and screenwriter will also be up for nominations.

Academy Awards for this year will be held on March 27th. The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will announce the nominees tomorrow.

Caitriona was nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award and the BAFTA Film Award, for her role in Kenneth Branagh’s film Belfast. Many are anticipating that she will be nominated today for an Oscar nomination.

RTE spoke to Anne and Jim about their daughter Caitriona, who is her mother.

We are so proud of her, and she has worked so hard. Anne said that she started in Dublin and went on to Paris, London, and New York.

Jim said, "Growing up she never spoke about acting. She was always taking off for people. She did a wonderful impression of Margaret Thatcher.

Anne stated that she also gave a good impression to Mairead McGuinness, the MEP.

Caitriona loved school and made the annual Gaeltacht summer trip like many teenagers of her age, where she met lots of new friends.

She did a lot there of singing, dancing and drama. Anne said that she found a notebook years ago, which I should have thrown away, and a young man suggested that you would make a great actor/model in the future.

Her parents claimed that she was smart and good at school but was also a "scamp" who kept them guessing.

Caitriona is a huge success with Outlander, where she plays Claire Fraser. This historical drama TV drama is huge in Australia and the US.

She's been acting since she was a child. She puts a lot of effort into her preparation. She was an Outlander actress for the first year. While she lived in Scotland, she did not know anyone other than her cast and crew. For the first twelve months, she had to work, eat, and prepare for the next day. Her mother explained that she had put in the work and it paid off.

Everyone is talking about the success of the film Belfast set during the Troubles. It stars Judie Dench and Ciaran Hinds, as well as Jamie Dornan and Jude Hill, all aged 12.

She doesn't let herself get carried away. Her dad stated that she has her baby and Tony, her husband. They are number one."

The film is now playing in Irish cinemas. It is viewed through the eyes of a young child, and tells the story about a difficult period in Irish history. It has received a lot of attention and there is much talk about Oscar nominations.

"We spoke to her last week, and she is so busy. Ten journalists from different countries did interviews with her in one day. Her dad said that she was exhausted from all of it.

He laughs, "Although she is sitting at a swimming pool and it's 23 degrees now, it's not too terrible."

"When she returned in November, we discussed it. Jim said, "If it goes well, it's great, but if not, how about it?"

Anne said, "Even the possibility of that, it's big thing."

"Whatever happens, Caitriona will still be Caitriona and we'll gladly see her the next day she gets home," she said.

It is possible that the film will be recognized in the best picture category. Stars Jamie Dornan and Ciaran Hinds could also be honored.
