Bayer Leverkusen has been one of Bundesligaens most formstærke teams in 2020, and before Tuesday's match against Wolfsburg, they had only lost once this year in the German league. At the same time, they had not lost in their last 12 matches in all competitions, of which 11 had been won.
But the stunning streak was broken with a bang on Tuesday night as Bayer Leverkusen visited Wolfsburg.
Bayer Leverkusen came bad from the start, and Wolfsburg was the best in the match introduction, where Leverkusen goalkeeper Luke Donald had discs up with a fine rescue. The fin could, however, not much, since Wolfsbug brought himself ahead in the first half slutminutter. The defender in Marin Pongracic jumped highest at a post and headede Wolfsburg in front.
After the break was Luke Donald again under pressure, and the former Superliga keeper kept the Leverkusen inside the fight with a couple of fine saves. He ran, however, also out of luck.
In the 64. minutes doubled Wolfsburg their lead when Max Arnold's free-kick ended up in the box after a straightening. A few minutes later it was 3-0 to the guests, as Renato Steffen could head the ball into the goal.
Marin Pongracic was also the double goal scorer in the 75th. minutes, before Julian Baumgartlinger reduced to 4-1 in the final minutes. It was also the end result.
In the evening's other Bundesliga matches played Frankfurt draw against Freiburg in a målrig match, while Borussia Mönchengladbach had to settle with a single point against bundholdet Werder Bremen.
