With more than 250,000 bricks, Brest claims “the largest Lego in the world” in the Guinness World Records

Between “8 and 10,000 people” participated this weekend in Brest, during a “very family meeting”, in the record for the largest Lego in the world which they hope to see approved by the Guinness World Records, a- we learned on Sunday from the organizers.

Measuring 21m long by 1.84m, the fresco highlighted by the organizers represents an old rigging, Notre-Dame de Rumengol, a restored cargo boat historically working in the Brest harbor.

The aim of the challenge was firstly to raise funds to enable the major refit of this sailing ship, a cost estimated at 250,000 euros, explained to AFP Nicolas Blancquaert, president of the An Test association, owner of the ND of Rumengol. Entrance to the event was free and everyone could give what they wanted for this project which received the support of the Heritage Foundation.

According to Mr. Blancquaert. “Between 20 and 25,000 people” went to the site to observe the progress of the fresco, he said. The event took place at the Ateliers des Capucins, former industrial workshops of the Brest arsenal which belonged to the French Navy, converted into a cultural and social diversity venue since their transfer to the community.

The current Guinness Lego record is currently 203,000 bricks and “we used 250,210,” said Mr. Blancquaert. “Now we have to submit an application file” to Guinness World Records to see the challenge approved as a record, he added.
