The new edition of the annual basketball promotion program begins on Tuesday, May 31 in Melilla, coinciding with the visit of the Spanish Women's National Team and its 'Road to the Future' tour.

The Spanish Basketball Federation and CaixaBank have already prepared the tenth edition of Plaza 3x3 CaixaBank, their annual basketball promotion program that includes the largest free and open-air 3x3 circuit in Spain.

After the success of the last edition, still marked by the strong restrictions imposed by COVID-19, the Plaza 3x3 CaixaBank returns next Tuesday, May 31 with the first stop in Melilla, coinciding with the visit of the Spanish Women's National Team and his 'Road to the Future' tour.

The 2022 circuit will have 12 stops distributed throughout the Spanish geography from May to October. For yet another year, the Plaza 3x3 CaixaBank will stop at the main squares in the country and, for the second consecutive year, it will go to Madrid and Barcelona as part of the urban sports festivals, Madrid Urban Sports and Extreme Barcelona, ​​respectively. In total, the tournament will visit the cities of Melilla (May 31), Madrid (June 11), Palma de Mallorca (June 18), Malaga (June 25), Pamplona (August 23), A Coruña (3 September), Santander (September 10), Barcelona (September 17), Zaragoza (September 24), Granada (October 1), Seville (October 8) and Leganés (October 15).

The days of the Plaza 3x3 CaixaBank 2022, which will be held on a weekend day, with the exception of Melilla and Pamplona, ​​which will both be on Tuesdays coinciding with acts of the absolute women's and men's teams, will have multiple sports courts, among which which will highlight the Pista CaixaBank, where the men's finals will be played, and the Pista Universo Mujer, which will host the women's finals. This last track is included within the 'Universo Mujer' project, led by the FEB and the Higher Sports Council for the promotion and dissemination of the role of women in society through the values ​​transmitted by athletes, to which it is adhered CaixaBank.

In the 12 cities where the circuit stops, the Plaza 3x3 CaixaBank will have the support of local institutions and the collaboration of the regional basketball federations. In addition to the sports competition, the circuit will also host recreational activities to ensure the fun of the participants, families and visitors, especially the little ones. The objective of this action is to take basketball to all corners of Spain to promote amateur basketball and the values ​​that this sport transmits.

In this new edition, the circuit will continue to emphasize strict compliance with the health regulation protocols required at all times, with the priority objective of preserving the health of participants and visitors. To do this, the organization will make the appropriate recommendations and take all essential health measures according to the situation.

The president of the FEB, Jorge Garbajosa, welcomes this 2022 edition of the Plaza 3x3 CaixaBank circuit, "which is already a more than classic programme, with more than a decade of experience, and above all a successful one. The joint work of the FEB and CaixaBank have turned it into a reference circuit for the promotion of Basketball, in emblematic settings and extraordinary participation, which multiplies, if possible, the value of our determined commitment to 3x3 Basketball in all its variants".

For Garbajosa, "taking basketball out on the street is one of the keys to opening it up to all ages and conditions, combining competition with fun and expanding the universe of followers a little more each year. And it is also an excellent transmission belt of the values ​​on which the growth of our sport is based." In addition, she remarks, "starting this 2022 edition in parallel with the concentration of the Women's National Team makes it especially exciting for everyone".

The FEB launched the Plaza 3x3 program in 2012, from its first edition by CaixaBank. Since its inception, the circuit has reached 101 stops, 45,000 participants and 225,000 visitors. All this in a total of 43 cities throughout Spain: A Coruña, Albacete, Alcalá de Henares, Alcázar de San Juan, Almendralejo, Almería, Ávila, Badajoz, Barcelona, ​​Bilbao, Burgos, Cáceres, Castellón, Cartagena, Córdoba, Gijón, Guadalajara, Granada, Huelva, Jaén, Jerez de la Frontera, León, Leganés, L'Hospitalet, Logroño, Madrid, Málaga, Melilla, Murcia, Palma de Mallorca, Pamplona, ​​Plasencia, San Sebastián, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Santander, Santiago of Compostela, Segovia, Seville, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Terrassa, Valencia, Zaragoza and Zarautz.

CaixaBank is a sponsoring member of the Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) and an official sponsor of the Spanish National Team in all its categories, male and female.
