The best 'gadgets' for smart home cleaning

Connected devices designed to make some household chores easier.

The months of confinement and the subsequent lockdowns at home due to the Covid pandemic that began in 2020, caused a considerable increase in the sale of home devices. In the case of the household appliance sector focused on cleaning, robots and broom vacuum cleaners took the cake, becoming options to sweep and even mop the floor remotely or more intelligently.

Taking advantage of this upward trend, some brands such as iRobot, the creators of the well-known Roomba, decided to investigate and try to eliminate the weak points of their robot vacuum cleaner: getting tangled up in cables and vacuuming things that it shouldn't (socks, for example). The result was the 2021 launch of the new Roomba J7. This robot gets smarter with each use and learns how to better navigate floors, remembering specific rooms and certain pieces of furniture, to clean in those areas where it is most needed. It is also able to start working automatically when no one is home and stop cleaning when they are back. It is sold with or without the self-emptying base, although it is recommended because it greatly facilitates use.

Another brand that has recently renewed its robot considerably improving it is Roborock. The Chinese firm boasts high-end with the S7 MaxV Ultra, capable of vacuuming and mopping with more power and much more precision and allowing the user more independence thanks to having three bases that are managed automatically: one for emptying the dust container , another for filling the water to scrub and the last one for washing the mop so that it is always clean.

Beyond robot vacuum cleaners, cordless broom-type vacuum cleaners have become a new trend in home cleaning. Dyson is the queen of this category and has recently launched the new V12 Slim, a slightly less powerful version than the V15 but which also boasts a dust detection laser and various brushes to remove dirt from any corner.

In the case of the AEG Series 8000, weighing less than 3 kilos, this equipment guarantees six times more powerful suction and deep cleaning, thanks to its cyclonic technology and five-stage filtering system that eliminates up to 99.9% of fine dust, achieving a thorough cleaning. In addition, it includes different brushes designed for each type of home surface.

Interesting is also the Kobold VC100 handheld vacuum cleaner from the German company Vorwerk (maker of Thermomix). It is the perfect accessory to instantly remove crumbs, dust or dirt from small surfaces, such as the car or the kitchen, thanks to its small size and ease of use.

In the case of looking for equipment to clean windows automatically, Vorwerk also has equipment of this type, as does the Spanish company Cecotec. The Conga Windroid 870 is operated from the mobile to clean any window without the need to move more than the phone's finger.
