Spider-Man across the Spider-Verse, a wonderful 2h20 sensory trip

After the first Oscar-winning part, released in 2018, we doubted that it would be possible to reproduce the feat of an animated Spider-Man who remained in weightlessness. However, we come out quite shaken by this second animated film. We even have the untimely urge to jump for joy.

Caught in the web of this new film from the first images, we take off for a sensory trip of 2h20. The shock is mainly visual. The aesthetics of the images and the animation are as innovative as ever. Paying homage to Warhol, Lichtenstein, Munch, Banksy or Jeff Koons, all mixed with the latest trends in street art, even abstract art, this second film plays with offset screens, primary colors and certain blurring effects. which give a 3D impression. Not to mention the speech bubbles that pop up in the movie as well as in the 1960s Batman TV series.

The tempo is frenzied, but knows how to slow down to offer beautiful moments of poetry or emotion. The dialogues are full of humor. We find this touch of impertinence mixed with a rather surprising dose of punk!

As for the plot, always cheerfully irreverent imagined by Phil Lord (The Great Lego Adventure, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs), it features the young Miles Morales alias Spider-Man of the Third Kind. After finding Spider-Gwen, who caught his eye in the first film, the friendly superhero from Brooklyn, will be catapulted into the heart of the Multiverse, where he meets a team of Spider-Heroes in charge of protect existence. The problem is that he is not welcome in this universe. He will therefore have to learn to redefine the meaning of the term "hero" in order to save the people he loves the most...

Exhilarating and full of energy, there is no doubt that this Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse marks a new turning point in the world of animation. By switching to a cartoon with an innovative aesthetic, Spider-Man continues to evolve. She is stunningly masterful.
