Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX Special Edition, a 'Top Gun' in your garage

"Maverick, your species is headed for extinction"... "Perhaps yes, sir, but not today." That's how emphatic the character that Tom Cruise embodies in the successful sequel to 'Top Gun' is shown when he addresses his superior, something similar to what happens to the great sports bikes and their sisters the great 'sportourer' like this Ninja H2 SX in its special version (SE) of Kawasaki, which offer a way to travel and enjoy the road that is difficult to replace with another type of mount.

The engine on which this H2 generation pivots is, no less, a supercharged four-cylinder that delivers about 200 hp at 11,000 rpm, but so solvent that it seems to hide 50 more hp. Its delivery to the fist of just over 137 Nm in the 8,500 laps really smooth and progressive and more than generous dimensions but without exaggeration -1,480 mm between axles, seat at 835 mm and 2,175 mm in total length-, makes this Ninja H2 SX SE is the roadster with capital letters on the market, the queen of a segment that resists the onslaught of the Euronorms on emissions and noise and generational changes... Like Maverik.

The Ninja H2 SX SE makes a mark on your vital calendar when you've ridden with it. It already happened to me with the first generation and with this version 2022 it has not been different, in addition to the added security provided by the radars that it incorporates. The adaptive control is especially smooth even forcing its use at a happy speed and the blind spot indicators, when you get used to it, give you almost a 360º vision of the situation at your controls.

And it is that the Akashi brand improves its specifications this year thanks to Bosch's ARAS technology that provides it with, not one, but two radar sensors that allow forward collision warning (FCW) -with three possible settings, it emits a strip of lights above the panel in the form of a warning when the motorcycle exceeds the certain distance with respect to the vehicle in front-, the adaptive cruise control (ACC) -also with three levels- and the detection of blind spots (BSD) - responsibility of the rear radar that, when it detects that a vehicle is heading towards the driver's blind spot, issues the order and a corresponding light in the rear-view mirror warns him.

This safety pack models a ride that already offered great sensations: electronic Showa suspension with Skyhook technology (SE versions), cornering management function, multi-level traction, launch and engine brake controls (yes, you can decide on what extent does it), the very different driving modes or the semi-automatic transmission. The Ninja H2 SX SE is a full-fledged sports car... but one that can be traveled with.

And it is that this Ninja HE SX SE has tourist winks such as the suitcases (Tourer version), keyless ignition, LED turning lights, tire pressure control or the vehicle retention assistance system (VHA) -perfect for starting uphill with a passenger and luggage- which comes as standard as does the Kawasaki SPIN, which allows you to link your smartphone to the motorcycle and access some 20 apps on the instrument panel, a 6.5 color TFT ".

This Ninja likes to accelerate decisively, but without abruptness, to run, to roll many kilometers... and the curves, which she interprets with the poise that a well-worked chassis by Kawasaki gives her. During the more than 300 kilometers of testing -on a great day of the route and with destination Sigüenza-, the combination of secondary roads with good surface and avoiding the motorway as much as possible (only for a section of return to Madrid) To express her qualities in a legal (but fun) speed range, this true queen of the road did not hide her desire at any time. The Ninja H2 SX SE invites you to have fun, to drive joyfully but always in control, to be attentive but not tense. No scares, but forceful at the controls, the position is comfortable because the bike is large, with a seat that, although it has room for improvement in terms of its hardness (a very personal issue), its size is so generous that contact with the co-pilot is always nice, it is not necessary to look for the place because there is plenty of room on the motorcycle for both of us. It takes the curves serenely, with the poise that its dimensions, its front suspension, and its centered weight give it. Some curves that, unless they are very closed, makes knocking down with her, many times, little less than unnecessary.

But will the passenger think the same? "When you put it in the corner, I'm already in the corner with you", impossible to improve the appreciation of my wife, my best co-driver, about the rigidity of her chassis. The touch and the ease of dosing the accelerator is simply perfect, more than compensating for that slight oversteer that it has when entering the turn and understeer when leaving, something normal with its dimensions. A marvel.
