Grey's Anatomy actor Patrick Dempsey was named "Sexiest Man Alive 2023" by People magazine on Tuesday, succeeding Marvel star Chris Evans. The 57-year-old actor, who played the attractive doctor Derek Shepherd in the medical series, said he was “completely shocked” when he heard the news, even believing it to be a joke. “This recognition is nice and my ego takes a hit, but more importantly it gives me the opportunity to use it for something positive,” Dempsey told People. The American actor has gained popularity starring in nearly 250 episodes of Grey's Anatomy broadcast on ABC in the role of the neurosurgeon nicknamed Doctor Mamour, a series he left in 2016. Married to the makeup artist and founder of the beauty line Jillian, he is especially interested in the way his children , Talula, 21, and twins Sullivan and Darby, 16, will react to her new status. “They’re just going to make fun of me,” he said.
In December, Patrick Dempsey will play Italian Formula 1 driver Piero Taruffi in the Ferrari biopic, directed by Michael Mann, alongside Adam Driver and Penelope Cruz. When the actor discovered that the film was being filmed, he dared to call the director to ask for a role. “I had been following the film for years, so I called Michael,” he confides. “It taught me that if you really want something, you have to do it yourself.”
