King Felipe VI receives Biden in Madrid for the NATO Summit

The king, accompanied by the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, and the Minister of Defense, Margarita Robles, received the US president at the foot of the track, with whom he exchanged a few words.

King Felipe VI received this Tuesday at the Torrejón de Ardoz air base (Madrid) the President of the United States, Joe Biden, who has traveled to Spain to participate in the 32nd NATO Summit, which begins this Wednesday in Madrid .

Air Force One, as the official Boeing 747 in which the president of the United States travels is known, landed at 3:04 p.m. from Germany, where Biden attended the G-7 meeting, although he left the summit earlier than expected due to bad weather in that area.

In addition to this reception in Torrejón, this afternoon Don Felipe is scheduled to hold a meeting with Biden, at the Royal Palace, after he meets with the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, at La Moncloa.

Biden is the tenth US president to visit Spain. The last to do so so far was Barack Obama in 2016.

Over two days, the NATO Summit will bring together nearly 40 Heads of State and Government at the IFEMA Fairgrounds in Madrid, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of Spain's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

Among the attendees will be the 30 allied countries, four invited Asia-Pacific countries (Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea), four other member countries of the European Union but not of the Alliance, as well as the heads of the Commission Union and the European Council.

Biden and the rest of the leaders attending the summit will have a first joint date at the dinner that Felipe VI will offer them tonight at the Royal Palace.
