The Consumer Price Index rises again after the abrupt drop of two points in March due to the increase in fuel prices this month compared to April of last year, with the entry into force of the discount approved by the Government, and electricity, due to their share is down less now than in April 2022. In contrast, food prices, which have been growing at double-digit rates for months, are up this month but less than they were in April 2022.
The data released today by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) that will not be confirmed until mid-May, also advances the data for underlying inflation, which does not contemplate the more volatile evolution of unprocessed food or energy, which fell nine tenths, up to 6.6%, with which the difference with the general CPI is reduced to two and a half points and accumulates two months of falls after the maximum of February, at 7.6%.
Compared to last month, consumer prices rose 0.6%, three months of consecutive increases.
For its part, in April the estimated annual variation rate of the Harmonized Consumer Price Index (IPCA) stood at 3.8%, seven tenths lower than that registered the previous month. In addition, the estimated monthly variation of the IPCA was 0.5%.
