Escriva accelerates his second pension number 2 relief

The Ministry of Social Security saw more changes than anticipated. Six days after news broke about the dissolution of Jose Luis Escriva's department, when the Secretary of States for Migration, Jesus Perea and the Secretary of Social Security, Israel Arroyo resigned, Tuesday saw the Council of Ministers approve their successors without waiting for the negotiations on the new self-employed contribution system.

Borja Suarez was appointed Secretary of State for Social Security and Pensions, replacing Israel Arroyo. Isabel Castro will take over as Head of Migration.

Suarez was the General Director of Social Security Planning since June 2018. Jose Fernandez Albertos will take over this position. Suarez, a Doctor of Law with a degree both in Law and Political Science, is currently a Professor of Labor Law and Social Security for the Autonomous University of Madrid. He has held this position since 2007. He will continue the dialogue on the last pension block as Secretary of State.

Arroyo was Arroyo's "number two" Secretary of State for Social Security, and he announced last week that he had resigned from the Ministry on his own initiative.

Arroyo intended to continue as Secretary of State for Social Security, until the bill on business plans, which was already approved by both Chambers of Congress, was settled and negotiations for the new self employed contribution system were completed.

Arroyo is a graduate of Business Administration and Management. He held the position as Secretary of State since 2020. He was previously the deputy general director for Public Indebtedness at the Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility, (AIReF), and he will be returning to the Ministry after his departure.

The Council of Ministers also approved the nomination of Isabel Castro to Secretary of State for Migration. Castro was appointed to the post at the request of Jesus Perea, her predecessor.

The Secretary of State for Migratory has a degree from Law and Business Administration and was previously General Director of Coordination and Relations with the Parliament, Rights and Diversity of Government of the Balearic Islands.
