Brussels proposes to keep fiscal rules suspended for another year due to the war

The commissioners of the European Commission have agreed on Monday to order the community countries to extend for 2023 the suspension of the deficit and debt objectives that have been in force since 2020 due to the pandemic. The measure could give the Spanish government room to delay its tax reform until 2024.

The magnitude of the economic upheaval caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which has aggravated the inflationary crisis, has slowed down -when it has not caused a fall- in the activity of European countries and has required the approval of new public aid.
