The company announces that it will hire 500 engineers and software developers for its technology centers in Madrid and Barcelona this year.

Amazon has announced that it will create 2,000 new jobs in Spain this year, which will increase its workforce to 20,000 permanent employees. The company maintains its commitment to reach a workforce of 25,000 workers with permanent contracts in 2025.

The American multinational has open positions for different types of profiles, from warehouse personnel to technology professionals. "Last year, Amazon hired 350 software developers and engineers. This 2022 we plan to sign 500 professionals with a technology profile," explained Fred Pattje, director of Amazon Customer Fulfillment in Spain, France and Italy.

The company has two large technology centers in Madrid and Barcelona that employ more than 600 experts in software development, engineering, data science and machine learning.

According to current growth forecasts, Amazon will be among the ten largest private companies by number of employees in Spain, according to data from Informa DB. The US multinational created 6,000 permanent jobs in Spain in 2021, bringing the number of permanent staff to 18,000 employees. In the previous year, the increase in the labor force was 5,000 people

The number of hirings last year exceeded the initial expectations of the company, which in June of last year announced its objective of creating 3,000 employees. In September, within the framework of the inauguration of a mega warehouse in Illescas, Toledo, its general director, Mariangela Marseglia, predicted that Amazon would close 2021 with at least 15,000 workers in Spain.

Amazon revealed yesterday that 36% of the workforce in Spain are women and that the company employs professionals of more than a hundred nationalities in our country. Around 5,000 Amazon Spain workers are under 30 years old.
