We can not only build for those with thick wallets

It is gratifying that the Swedish construction industry agree that the need for affordable housing is great. More players need to realize that we are not only able to build for those with the thickest wallets. We will maintain the byggtakten and reduce the housing shortage, we need to build for a broader audience.

As purchasers of new construction of housing, the public housing sector have a large responsibility as a client and the authority having jurisdiction. Sabo's Kombohus has been a success, and the public housing has so far built more than 9.000 apartments around the country. The public housing sector has thus been able to build housing with reasonable rents even in markets where it would otherwise not have been economically feasible to build. To continue to develop Kombohus-concept and to work with our standard procurement procedure Flex is for us a matter of course. We take our role as a community builder and to provide housing for all very seriously.

But to lay the entire responsibility for price developments in the us as a client, we do not consider to be reasonable. A rise in the price of the whole 48 per cent in less than three years is simply not acceptable, not even during the boom, with a shortage of capacity. What other industry has had a corresponding price? It may not be in line with being a community builder as the construction industry often call themselves.
