Not a single University in Germany, and is headed by a Person born in the East. This is the result of an analysis by the centre for higher education development (CHE). Typically, the management of a University, therefore, is a man, born in the West, with an average of 59 years old, - stated in the analysis, for the biographies of 81 presidents and presidents or rectors of public universities have been evaluated.
All are born in the West: "Thirty years after the reunification, a University landscape without Top executives with East German roots is quite remarkable", says CHE managing Director Frank Ziegele. Four lines have a place of birth abroad, including Christian Thomsen, President TU Berlin, was born in Bern, Switzerland. On average, the Unileitungen have been in office since 2012. The oldest – Wolfgang Herrmann from the technical University of Munich – will leave office after 24 years at the end of September.
