The Scala is to set new standards

Scala – suggests glitz and Glamour. One thinks of the world-famous Opera house in Milan, magnificent theatre and cinemas, the same name. Scala is also the name of the new compact cars from Skoda , starting from may, against established rivals such as VW Golf, Opel Astra, Renault Megane or Mazda 3. He replaced the Skoda Rapid, the trunk of the tree until 1934.

For the parent Volkswagen is Scala, but also for economies of scale – 4,36-Meter-long Hatchback is based on the Modular Transverse matrix MQB-A0, which already forms the basis for models such as the Audi A1, Seat Arona or VW Polo. Add to this the well-known engines and other components from the VW-shelf – this can save a lot of costs.

Scala also means scale, and that is exactly what is supposed to represent the Czech in the compact segment. "We are convinced that the Scala has the best chances to define the Segment for us," Skoda chief Bernhard Maier particularly optimistic. "He is a complete redesign, and will set class Standards inSachen technology, safety and Design."

Now, in General, the Scala sets a new benchmark, but in some areas he is positioned really far forward. About terms of space: The comparatively long wheelbase of 2.65 meters and a clever use of space, series create generous space for the passengers on two seat. The boot space of 467 litres, is impressive, with the rear seats folded it grows to 1410 litres more load space you may not expect in this class.

Also in terms of driving assistance systems and equipment, the compact Skoda is well placed. An emergency braking system with pedestrian recognition, a lane departure warning system, a warning of vehicles in blind spot and cross cars at the Ausparkieren, a fatigue detection system or an adaptive cruise control, which brakes it to a standstill, are not a matter of course in the compact class. Add to this the headlights and rear lights in LED technology, seat, steering Wheel and windshield heating, an electrically-operated tailgate, a virtual Cockpit, a fully crosslinkable infotainment system with large Touchscreen and advanced voice control. And much, much more.

In the category of Design, the new Scala can Shine: The proportions are harmonious, the lines are straightforward, the Front and rear like with a modern-shaped lighting units and a distinctive light signature. "The Scala is an important step in the development of our design language," confirmed chief designer Oliver Stefani. The interior, too, with a clearly structured Cockpit and an elegant Layout of the controls is well received. "At the heart of this concept are comfortable and soft materials in the direct vicinity of the occupant, as well as the new free-standing screen," explains Stefani. Depending on the trim level and installed options of the Scala is actually pretty high-end upgrade; on the other hand, the plastic elements bear witness to the cost pressure in this Segment.

Little innovative engines
