I still Remember like it was yesterday that moment in the Vancouver olympics 2010 when we got the team top of the hill without a medal and decided I wasn't going to wait four more years for the next opportunity. Soon after, I read in the newspaper that the lahti institute of design began in the following year a new approach to industrial design based on the vehicle design. I say to myself in my mind, that even if I don't fail my childhood dream to win an olympic medal in ski jumping, what if I tried to implement another of my childhood dreams, i.e. from the design of cars. At that point I didn't have any idea what it would be challenging, and in hindsight one could say that maybe it's an olympic medal would make it easier on the road through the achieved.

Daily hours are not sufficient in any of both, and I began to fear that if you continue the same way, I should succeed in neither. I quit ski jumping in February 2014, so I was able to focus entirely on my studies the last year and a half.

Immediately after I graduate in 2015 I received a post-graduate place London, the Royal College of Art. I graduated from there, the vehicle design master's degree in hand in 2017.

– That two-year period was required. It should push around the clock, seven days a week, even on holidays. The industry is so competitive, that has to be just the tip, if your going to get after the completion of the job. On the other hand, just that the educational institution provides the best opportunities to get to work. Industry with a lot of work, and well-known car design with a visit to the little matter of watching the students and their projects. The first and second study year between the summer in Germany, internship in, and I get to work with porsche for the planned project.

Yes, you can say, one of the most reputable design colleges in general. RCA has more than 50-year history of car design, and many former pupils have achieved a leading role in the automotive sector: Giles Taylor (Rolls-Royce), Stefan Sielaff (Bentley), Marek Reichmann (Aston Martin), Peter Horbury (Volvo), David Woodhouse (of Lincoln), the Thomas Ingenlath (Polestar) and so on. The list is long.

– Finnish is at least a couple of dozen studied at the RCA in car design. Many have ended up with the big firms recruited: Antti Savio (Skoda), Miikka Heikkinen (McLaren and Ford), Joonas Vartola (of Tesla and Pininfarina) and Jarno Lehtinen (Toyota).

I've always liked drawing and painting. I have to admit that most often, they occur always in some sort of car or racer, when I went to the old childhood time to work my through a few years ago. Also motorcycles are always attracted to.

these days I am more interested in all the use of objects and products, of course, not forgetting the sculptures and art in general. A variety of techniques and hand skills knowledge of is very important for my current job.

the car you evoke great emotions, although they are part of the everyday our everyday lives. I have always been interested in how any object works and how it is assembled or how it can be modified and developed.

– the most fascinating most car design is that the process always starts very simply: pen and paper drafting. After that, step by step, the process becomes more complex and more people involved in the process. New car model development takes an average of 3-5 years, and participate in the process thousands of people. Muotoilutyö is this day very much a team effort. Someone once said, that the action resembles a football team. Everyone has their own part of-their area, their responsibility, and the common passion is to create the best possible outcome. it All started the second RCA-in the beginning, when Giles Taylor, RR design director, was a jury in one of our projects. He liked my project and present in augmentation my and asked me to send my portfolio to him. After this I didn't hear anything about him in over half a year, until just before the completion of our Rolls-Royce asked for an interview a few pre-designated graduating class. Among them were five who received a week in a small, personal project. After that, RR offered a job to one student – and it was me.

– It feels almost unreal. My first priority was to get the RCA after the whole work, the second goal from the automotive industry and the third goal from the BMW Group, because they are below all three of your favorite car brand. Rolls-royce's design department is also really small: only thirty or so designers.

– Every day is a little different, and that's just is the best. Our work is mainly of long duration processes, which follow a carefully planned schedule and the process from start to finish, but occasionally also becomes smaller quick project that will bring a nice additional spice to your everyday life.

Rolls-Royce headquarters is Chichesterissä, about an hour south of London. The plant is found next to the renowned Goodwood racecourse.

– our design department is located right on the production line next to it. So we see in the near distance, when the cars are completed.

I Have been involved in many different processes car the outer shell of the secondary marketing products. Sometimes the role is to work from the early idea stage as part of a larger team, sometimes to solve a problem quickly and sometimes be involved through the entire process from beginning to end. I've gotten to work also for the future of innovation and limited edition cars in the bouquet. The role and responsibility varies from project to project.

– Some of the design my is already in production, but much more is still yet to come. In front is an exciting time.

– Porsche 356 Spyder, the first ever Porsche. I saw this car in the Porsche museum a few years ago and fell in love with it at first glance.

– currently I don't own a car. My business trip will go by bike in just eight minutes door-to-door. I prefer also public transport. In this case, I can use travel time more effectively, for example, sketching. Car designers want to use every free moment of tom and brainstorming.

Yeah, there is even a little ironic, that even though I moved to the country, which is practically not even snow in the winter, everyone seems to still know ski jumping.

When people hear the sports career, it will cause a big interest, and I always have the issue of flooding. Work we talks ski jumping will rise from time to time out. I guess so, I can't get that stamp never get rid of...
