Daimler gives € 20 billion for battery cells

The auto group Daimler is investing heavily in E-mobility: With our own factories and long-term supply contracts, he wants to make sure its battery-production up to the year 2030.

The Stuttgart-based carmaker Daimler buys battery cells for a 20 billion Euro. "We have set a further important milestone for the electrification of our future electric vehicles," said the purchasing Director of the car division Mercedes, Wilko.

Details of the suppliers were not named, only that they produce in Asia and Europe, as well as in the future also in the USA. Daimler is building the batteries themselves, buys the cells - the essential building block for that - but in the case of external suppliers. Thus, Daimler laid the Foundation for its E-car-Offensive.
