DN Debate. China's rapid development provides opportunities for Sweden

It is natural that the development of a country which has the world's largest population, the second largest economy and third largest surface area to the attention of the international community. And it is natural that some western friends in front of the criticism.

But it is wrong to believe that China's size will lead to that the country will try to dominate and threaten other countries when it has become strong enough.

China's success is based mainly on their own efforts. As a nation with almost 1.4 billion inhabitants, a land area of 9.6 million square kilometers and with 56 nationalities, we can not make ourselves dependent on other countries, not through looting or theft.

In five years 10 000 goods trains travelled between China and Europe and trade with the countries around train lines have passed the 5 000 billion us dollars in value. China's direct investment in other countries is over 70 billion dollars. We believe that China will be better only under the condition that also the world becomes better. If everyone gets better so it is really good.

Our bilateral trade passed the year 2018 17 billion u.s. dollars, an increase of 17 percent compared with the year before. Investor, Ericsson, Ikea, H&M, with several well-known Swedish companies have pushed their business in China for many years, and China has become an important market for Sweden. Many Swedish companies have participated in the first chinese importmässan and they have received orders for more than 360 million dollars.

Both China and Sweden hold on to the diversity and agree to protect free trade and to act on climate change.

That there are differences in history, culture and political systems between our two countries should not be an obstacle for us to be able to develop our relationship. Sweden was the first western country that established diplomatic relations with the people's Republic of China.
