Two salahs and a little luck - Liverpool claim victory at Tottenham

Liverpool FC have managed to break free after two defeats in the English Premier League. In the away game at Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, the ailing Reds prevailed 2-1 (2-0), mainly thanks to star striker Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian scored twice in the first half (11th/40th minute) for coach Jürgen Klopp's team.

The visitors from Liverpool had luck on their side in London. For his second goal, Salah capitalized on a mistake by Kieran Dier, who unluckily headed the ball down his path.

The referee did not count a shove in the penalty area by Trent Alexander-Arnold against Ryan Sessegnon as a penalty – at least a controversial decision. In addition, Spurs attacker Ivan Perisic first hit the post and later the crossbar. However, Liverpool's Darwin Núñez also hit the crossbar.

Spurs put Liverpool under a lot of pressure until the final whistle. Harry Kane (70th) scored the well-deserved goal after submitting Dejan Kulusevski, who made his comeback after an injury break. Tottenham still has to do without top striker Heung-Min Son. The former HSV professional had to undergo an operation after a fracture in his eye.

In the Premier League table, Liverpool improved to eighth place, while Tottenham slipped to fourth after suffering a somewhat unfortunate third defeat in their fourth league game.

Arsenal, on the other hand, remain leaders after the 13th matchday. The Londoners beat local rivals Chelsea 1-0 (0-0) on Sunday. In doing so, they relegated defending champions Manchester City, who provisionally overtook the Gunners on Saturday, from first place.

In the pouring rain at London's Stamford Bridge, Gabriel (63rd minute) scored the only goal to give Arsenal a deserved win. In the game, which was played very defensively by both teams, the Gunners dominated the game, had more possession and more shots on goal.

Chelsea with the German national player Kai Havertz and the former Dortmund and Arsenal professional Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang acted too harmlessly. The Blues have slipped back to seventh in the table after their second Premier League defeat. The gap to Arsenal is 13 points.
