This weekend, Baza will host an extraordinary sporting event: The Spanish Championship in Muay Thai. A contact sport that brings together 200 of the most prominent figures from the country, this test will serve to form the national team as well as its representation at European level and global. This is a novel idea that will complement other sports with a long tradition in Baza, like boxing or taekwondo. This is yet another example of the City Council's organizational skills in top-level sporting events, in which Baza was awarded the European City of Sport title.
Manolo Gavilan, mayor of Baza, Antonio Vallejo (Councilor for Sports), and Rafael Francisco Gonzalez Gil, president of the Andalusian Federation of Muay Thai and Kick Boxing, presented the event. Manolo Gavinan thanked him especially for his support of Baza. "For this national event, with which we continue from City Council in our role of generators of activity that generates a significant movement in the city. Since there are many athletes who will be meeting this weekend in Baza to experience this Championship that coincides avec a festival of great traditions such as the Crosses.
The Councilor for Sports reminds us that contact sports will be a prominent part of this year's sports program thanks to the Karate and Taekwondo Federations. They also organize Andalusian championships. One of the most important events in this European year is the Muay Thai national Muay Thai.
Spanish Kickboxing and Muaythai Federation will organize the event and it will be held in Baza for several consecutive days. Yesterday's assembly was completed and all necessary equipment is available for Saturday's fighting in the municipal sports hall. The public is welcome to attend the fights. Rafael Francisco Gonzalez reported that the finals will air live on Saturday by LigaSport TV. This is a huge diffusion for the city.
The mayor and councilor use this opportunity to encourage sports fans to see the show. "That the pavilion has been filled again, and we hope that both Spanish and Andalusian federations are happy. It is not the last time that they can be with me in Baza."
