Whoever builds the station can also determine what it looks like around it - at least that is the result of an architectural competition that the Danish architects C.F. Møller was able to decide for himself. The office also provided the design for the station building and the two new Deutsche Bahn high-rise buildings. Now it was about the so-called open space planning.
The building ensemble is being developed by ProHa Altona GmbH
To the west of the tracks, the neighborly character in front of the cemetery chapel is created by benches and trees. The architects from Aarhus are planning with various colorful tree species and a material mix of light-colored concrete slabs and robust benches with wooden elements. The jury's decision for the design by C.F. Møller was unanimous. The opening of the station is planned for 2027, a total of 548 million euros will be invested, with the federal government contributing significantly to the costs. There had been great resistance in parts of Altona in recent years to the relocation of the station.
