These are the World Cup games on December 5th

The World Cup in Qatar offers great football entertainment almost without a break. So that you don't miss an important game, we'll provide information about the games of the day, the kick-off times and the respective group tables.

A total of 16 countries will play against each other in the round of 16. After three games have been played in all groups, the crucial phase is now upon us: In the knockout phase, it is decided in just one game who has to leave and who advances to the quarter-finals. Tomorrow's pairings at a glance:

Most games are shown on free TV: ARD and ZDF show a total of 48 games, including all games with German participation, the semi-finals and the final. The second major provider is Magenta TV – Telekom shows all World Cup games live.

In addition to two rounds of 16 and a quarter-final, some games from the last matchdays of the group phase, which are taking place in parallel, are played here exclusively. If Germany is not playing in the game for third place, this will also be shown exclusively on Magenta TV.

Japan-Croatia: Al-Wakra (Al-Janub Stadium)

Japan: After the victories over the former world champions Germany and Spain, the team around Frankfurt's Daichi Kamada is capable of anything. The goal of the quarterfinals, which was announced before the tournament, now seems within reach. It will be exciting to see whether top joker Ritsu Doan plays from the start or comes off the bench again. Gladbach centre-back Ko Itakura has been suspended after two yellow cards and is likely to be replaced by Arsenal's Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Croatia: The vice world champion will have to improve, against Belgium it was only with a lot of luck that they made it into the knockout round. Coach Zlatko Dalic warned his players about the unpleasant Japanese: "We will respect every opponent. If we underestimate someone, we're out immediately. Japan has beaten two former world champions. That says it all.” It's still unclear whether Stuttgart's Borna Sosa can play. The left-back recently complained of being unwell.

Brazil-South Korea: Doha (Stadium 974)

Brazil: Now the hot phase of the tournament begins for the Brazilians. It's no secret that they are desperate to win their sixth world title. A win against South Korea should only be a first step on the way there. But now, of all times, national coach Tite is planning significant personnel problems in defence. Due to the injuries to Alex Telles and Alex Sandro, he no longer has a left-back in the squad. Even superstar Neymar is not back to 100 percent after his foot injury. Nevertheless: Brazil is going into the game as the clear favourite.

South Korea: For South Korea it is the big bonus game. They had been eliminated in the preliminary round eight times before the Qatar tournament in ten appearances at the World Cup, and now they beat Portugal with a goal in injury time to beat Brazil in the round of 16. Of course, getting through would be a sensation, but Paulo Bento's team was almost written off in the group stage - and they're still there. Defense chief Min-Jae Kim should return to the starting XI, former Leipzig professional Hee-Chan Hwang will probably come back as a joker.

Four teams are always in action on the same day. On December 5th, it will be the teams from groups E, F, G and H.
