The PSOE primaries result in Seron's mayor winning and there will not be a second round

It was taken for granted by many, but it was not widely known that it would be proclaimed to all four winds. Although there is no clear winner, the socialist primaries in Almeria have been one of the closest.

Juan Antonio Lorenzo has been elected mayor of Seron with the help of the general secretary of the PSOE. He received the support of 51% of the militants who voted.

He received 1,764 votes compared to 1,434 votes for Indalecio Gutierrez. Indalecio Gutierrez had 41.5 percent support and could not help but to congratulate him. Sonia Ferrer (national deputy) was the big loser. She only received 7.5 percent.

According to Antonio Martinez, the provincial secretary of Organization, 4,735 militants were called to vote. However, 3,504 people passed through the 59 centers in the province. That is 74 percent.

They summoned the media to the PSOE's provincial headquarters at 9:00 pm to report the results. Minutes passed and leaks continued to follow one another, but no one appeared on the stage. Indalecio Gutierrez, the candidate, walked down Calle Jesus de Perceval about half an hour later. A retinue accompanied him as he did the feat. He arrived in the press room full of enthusiasm. However, his excitement quickly turned to disappointment once he stepped onto a carpet. He was invited by the headquarters to come up to the offices to receive information. They told him that he had lost, and that Lorenzo should be congratulated.

Twenty minutes later, everyone knew the results. However, they hadn't been made official since that match. A street commotion broke the silence. The night's winner had just arrived at street number 49. Those present couldn't help but get in his car. It is well-known that the person who moves doesn’t appear in the photo, and that politics is no less than nonexistent.

It was a strange, cold, and stressful night. After having completed a lengthy agenda of meetings and visits at both the local and provincial levels in the past days, the three candidates arrived at their appointment. Everyone believed in the process' cleanliness and development. However, there were rumors of unjustified actions like the rise in affiliations to the municipal group in the capital after the deadline expired.

Yesterday's session was a positive and pleasant experience. Each of the participants aimed to win the most support from the 4,735 militants called to the polls. Indalecio Gutierrez was the national deputy, Secretary of Organization of the Local Association of the PSOE, and was therefore the most optimistic. His letter of introduction had 1,200 endorsements, which he was able to achieve in a very short time span. Juan Espadas' closest rival, the candidate who was also the coordinator of his campaign during the Andalusian primaries. He entered the race with a speech focusing on "change" and "revitalization of the party." His direct and fluid relationship with the socialist municipal organizations of the province was one of his strengths.

Sonia Ferrer (also national deputy) entered the race with a strong commitment: "A party modèle different from what was done so far," with an eye on any negative electoral results. This message did not win her over and led most militants to back Juan Antonio Lorenzo's municipalist speech. Jose Luis Sanchez Teruel, the acting secretary general, supports the mayor of Seron as he follows the same path as the outgoing executive.

Here are the results for each municipality.

"I appreciate Sanchez Teruel’s willingness to get out of the way so the party could come together"

"I will be generous. I believe the party, militants, this region, and the people who are in dire need of the PSOE should all want a united PSOE. I will insist on it and I promise to be serious about it. Juan Antonio Lorenzo was the night's winner.

The PSOE of Almeria's new general secretary, who will be ratified by the Congress in Roquetas de Mar, December 12, warned that it was impossible to stray from the core purpose of the Congress, which is to improve and sustain the welfare of all citizens.

He will also pick up Jose Luis Sanchez Teruel's relief, who accompanied Lorenzo yesterday in his first press conference. The mayor of Seron also sent him a message in his presence: "Thank you for the gesture of our acting Secretary General, Jose Luis Sanchez Teruel," he said. He thought that the party could come together if he was on the same side. A few words were enough to elicit the cheers of the crowd, which included mayors from various municipalities and militants. Sonia Indalecio cannot allow that sacrifice to be forgotten. Without losing a congress, he leaves. Jose Luis must be given the baton and we have to take it. We need to get to the sites together, unite, work, and get the best from each other to create a strong, strong, and respected team in the province." Lorenzo said.

He was not triumphalist in his speech, given the tight victory. Therefore, he had to call for unity at every moment. "I will never forget this day. I hope the PSOE improves with what we are going to do from now on>>. He stated that he would quickly set up a team to culminate in Congress of Roquetas. The next day, they will be already working towards a clear goal that is to restore electoral space in his province. He said that the team must "make Juan Espadas the government of Junta de Andalucia that all Andalusians need".
