The processionary can prevent allergic reactions

Prevention. The City Council has taken measures to reduce allergic reactions caused by processionary in Alcala la Real residents and visitors to Fortaleza de la Mota. This is due to the large presence of pine trees within the gardens and around the monument. The municipal company Jardines y Medio Ambiente S.L has started work on an internal network as well as a security ring surrounding the municipality. This includes placing pheromone traps within parks and groves of pines, and other sensitive conifers.

Mercedes Flores (the mayor of Works and Services), stated that the Jardines y Medio Ambiente business relies on this specific intervention. It has a low environmental impact and has very little impact on other species. It is important to act quickly so that allergic reactions and infections caused by the processionary do not occur next spring.

This was explained by the statement that "acting in the stage when the insect has already become an adult is more effective." It is less harmful to nature to use pheromones rather than insecticides. The best way to combat this plague is with natural predators. In particular, bats are the best choice.
