The nerve highway construction site of the summer is already being set up

On Monday, new construction work will begin on the A23 motorway (Hamburg-Heide), which will impede traffic between Pinneberg and Hamburg until the end of the year. The roadway in the direction of Hamburg is to be renovated between Pinneberg-Süd and the state border and completely renewed in the Hamburg area, as announced by Autobahn GmbH Nord.

To set up the construction site, one of the two lanes in the direction of Heide from Hamburg-Eidelstedt will be closed from Monday. A week later, northbound, two lanes should be available again. There is only one lane of traffic going south – until shortly before Christmas.

The motorway company expects traffic jams, especially during rush hour in the morning and afternoon. Even in the summer holidays, North Sea vacationers must reckon with disabilities on days when the bed is changed. Last year, the road in the direction of Heide in the Hamburg area was renovated and provided with low-noise asphalt. The A23 is a major commuter route, used by more than 90,000 vehicles every day.

The second phase of the construction site setup on the A23 is to be combined with a planned full closure of the A7 from March 24th to 27th. On the last weekend in March, half of the bridge in Hamburg-Othmarschen is to be demolished. It has to give way to the eight-lane expansion of the Autobahn. As of this Monday, traffic crossing the A7 on Behringstrasse is to be routed through a tunnel cell, which will be part of the Altona noise protection tunnel currently under construction. The full closure affects the A7 between Hamburg-Volkspark and Hamburg-Heimfeld from Friday, 7:00 p.m. to Monday, 5:00 a.m.

Autobahn GmbH recommends avoiding the closed Elbtunnel route and avoiding unnecessary journeys. The A7 is one of the busiest autobahns in Germany. Around 120,000 vehicles pass through the Elbe Tunnel every day.
