The mayor and district administrator write a fire letter to Scholz about the influx of refugees

It is a call for help from the grassroots in the country: the mayors and the district administrator of the Main-Taunus district have written a fire letter to Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) and Hesse's Prime Minister Boris Rhein (CDU). In the letter, which is available to WELT, they call for the influx of refugees to be limited and controlled.

“Control and limit the influx of refugees actively! Take a close look to see who needs our help and who doesn't!” is the appeal at the end of the letter, which also calls for more deportations. "You should also actively lead people who are illegally staying in the Federal Republic back so that we can use our resources for those who really need our help!"

And further: "Help us by consistently applying laws in order to do justice to the current situation and do not set any other incentives to make your way to the Federal Republic for economic reasons." First, "Bild" reported on the fire letter .

The letter was signed by District Administrator Michael Cyriax (CDU), several district councillors, including FDP and Greens politicians, and the mayors of the twelve municipalities in the district. Among them is Alexander Immisch (SPD) from Schwalbach – the home town of Interior Minister Nancy Faeser (also SPD). Faeser only a few days ago rejected EU plans to make deportations easier.

The reason given for the demand for a limit on immigration is the impending overload. 8,599 refugees are currently living in the district, which has the second highest population density of all districts in Germany. "We are currently renting hotels and private accommodation again to deal with the situation," the letter said. "But let's not kid ourselves: With the ever-increasing number of refugee movements, our capacities are finite."

Even today, many local families find it difficult to find adequate living space. "This situation on the housing market is being exacerbated massively by the refugee movements," it continues. The signatories also demand that the area of a district be taken more into account when distributing asylum seekers and refugees. Because in the district in the suburbs of Frankfurt/Main there is hardly any vacancy or building land.

The Main-Taunus district also has its limits when it comes to caring for the people who have already been admitted. The letter mentions support, school places and integration courses as problems. "With regard to the admission of refugees, we have to deploy staff in our offices who have to be appropriately qualified," write the local politicians. It is only possible with considerable effort to find the necessary personnel on the labor market - the reason is the lack of skilled workers.

The letter also emphasizes that the municipalities in the Main-Taunus district are generally willing to help refugees. “For years we have been helping many people to live safely here. We are able to do this thanks to the unbelievable cohesion of the community family and the many local helpers,” the fire letter ends. "Please don't overwhelm these structures. Help us to help people.”
