King Emeritus Juan Carlos I arrived shortly before 12:30 p.m. at the Sanxenxo Yacht Club (Pontevedra), where he was received by dozens of people who acclaimed him with cheers of "Long live the king!" and "Long live Spain!", to follow the Spanish 6-meter Sailing Cup.
He has done it, along with his daughter the Infanta Elena, in the same vehicle in which he arrived at the municipality this Thursday from the Peinador airport (Vigo), also driven by his friend Pedro Campos, the president of the local Yacht Club.
Coming from the house that Campos has in Sanxenxo, specifically in Nanín, and where he is staying this weekend with his daughter, the emeritus got out of the vehicle dressed in sportswear -cherry-colored pants, a polo shirt and a white vest- and a cap, leaning on a cane.
He was accompanied by an assistant, on whom he leaned during the formal greetings, Pedro Campos himself, and the Infanta Elena, also dressed in white sportswear, sunglasses and a sailor polo shirt on her shoulders, wearing the same cap as her father.
Don Juan Carlos greeted the media and the dozens of people gathered in front of the doors of the Náutico to welcome him. There, in a photocall, he was received by the Municipal Corporation with the councilman, Telmo Martín, at the head; club members; and the president of the Galician Tourism Cluster, Cesáreo Pardal.
After posing in front of the graphic media, the monarch joked with the weather, assuring that it was not raining and that, therefore, he was not going to need the clogs that a Galician journalist offered him. The kings emeritus, Don Juan Carlos and Doña Sofía, and the inscription '39 years of reign' are represented on them.
Given the euphoria generated among the public with his arrival, Don Juan Carlos has approached the neighbors, crowded behind the fences, to shake their hands and show his gratitude for the reception.
And it is that dozens of people, both residents and tourists and a large part carrying mobiles to immortalize the moment, have acclaimed the infanta and monarch with cheers of 'Long live the King!' and 'Long live Spain!', also welcoming them to loud applause.
The infanta Elena, in the background, has also been very excited. She has left the club after 1:00 p.m. and, after returning to greet the crowd and the media, she has commented that she is "everything very well".
The emeritus did spend almost an hour inside the Club, where he was received by the team, also to applause and cheers.
Around 1:30 p.m., after holding a meeting with the crew, he left the area with Telmo Martín and Pedro Campos, who has returned to driving.
Before getting into the car, he once again addressed the media and the crowd, putting his hand to his heart and nodding his head, and even shook hands in response to cheers and multiple questions about his health. and his return to Spain that the journalists have launched.
The entourage then went to the jetty where the 'Bribón' remained moored. Although the rumors about his participation captaining the boat have not stopped since his presence in Sanxenxo was confirmed, finally Don Juan Carlos will continue the test from the support boat.
It is true that the emeritus has spent some time on board the 'Bribón', where he has seemed to inspect its condition and has even taken a family photo with the crew. He also on board the ship he has greeted another of the competing teams that passed by the dock, stopping to chat with them.
Pedro Campos and the monarch have then gone to the auxiliary boat, in charge of towing the 'Bribón' to the exit of the marina; common practice in this type of regattas.
The test itself will start around 3:00 p.m. and is expected to end around 6:00 p.m. or 6:30 p.m.
