The Garrucha Institute will need to be repaired at a cost of more than 100,000 Euros

According to technicians from the Ministry of Education of Andalusian Government, the cost of repairs and conditioning of the Mediterranean Secondary Education Institute of Garrucha (IES), in Levante Almeria after an "intentional" fire last Sunday at dawn, which the Civil Guard is investigating will exceed 100,000 euros.

Yesterday, sources from the Andalusian government indicated that cleaning and painting will be done through Garrucha Town Hall. First estimates point to a disbursement exceeding 100,000 euros to restore the institute, which was founded less than two decades ago, to its former state in the 2003-2004 academic years. While waiting for "knowing possible incidents not yet discovered", which could lead us to an increase in our budget, the first estimates are already positive.

After receiving the notice, flames were extinguished by members of Levante Almeriense Firefighters Consortium in under an hour. They were particularly prevalent at the entrance of the institute, the concierge, and some classrooms. The investigation is ongoing.

Parallel to this, the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard continues an investigation to attempt to identify and find those who set the fire. They will use the recordings from the surveillance cameras of the educational centre as well as the technical reports providing the active services.

On Tuesday, 270 of the 570 students who make up the middle of the groups 1st and 4th ESO and 2nd Baccalaureate returned to school. The rest of them are continuing their classes online. The adjacent sports pavilion was also used by the municipality to complete the spaces.
