Karl Lauterbach was 32 years old when the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen advertised the C4 professorship in “Health Systems Research” in autumn 1995. He has just completed his stay in the USA, with a Doctor of Science degree from the Harvard School of Public Health in his pocket. The up-and-coming scientist wasted no time, on December 10 he sent an application for the professorship to Tübingen. The files of the appointment procedure can still be viewed in the university archives - and could now become a problem for the Federal Minister of Health. Because his application is also stored here, and it cannot be reconciled with his actual career.
