The Churriana de la Vega City Council presented the Churriana de la Vega City Council with one of the most significant official acts of 2018. The Consistory performed an official recognition of the sporting achievements of four residents of Churrian municipalities, who have enjoyed great success over the past year in their respective sporting categories.
Maria Lopez Valenzuela, a soccer player; Francisco Olmos Garcia, a swimmer; Alejandro Rete Escobar, a kickboxing champion; Oscar Rivas Illan, an indoor soccer player for deaf people; were all part of a simple act that took places in City Hall facilities with other personalities from the government team. The councilors met the athletes and their families to present commemorative plaques which recognized their achievements in professional life. Narvaez wanted the athletes to be an example for everyone. He noted that they "are an inspiration, not just for athletes but for all of humanity for their hard work, effort, and sacrifice to achieve the best for themselves and for us all." Manuel Moreno (Councilor for Sports) was responsible for distributing the plaques along with the mayor.
Maria Lopez Valenzuela (U-17 soccer world champion) was honored for her achievements in the highest competition of her category. In recent years, the goalkeeper has made huge strides, going through all the categories of the Spanish Soccer Team. She also enjoyed the incredible experience of playing in the Women's World Cup Uruguay. They beat Mexico in the final, after defeating New Zealand and North Korea in the quarterfinals.
Francisco Olmos Garcia, who was a founding member of the Sunwood Churriana Swimming Club 19 years ago, was awarded this recognition for "his effort, dedication, and life dedication to swimming as a swimmer as well as teacher and manager".
Alejandro Rete Escobar, a world champion in kickboxing under the ICO K-1 method, was another young man who saw his achievements honored. The championship was won by the 'warrior' in Rome last November. He is still young and has many more competitions to play in.
Oscar Rivas Illan (European futsal champion for deaf) closed the gala. He beat Russia, along with his team, by three goals to one at the championship in Tampere, Finland.
The Churriana government team wanted a few words to congratulate all honorees at the event. They noted that they "with complete confidence" will be able enjoy greater achievements in their personal and professional careers, where they are proud to be churrianeros.
