The Board grants environmental approval to the partial dismantling of the Carboneras thermal power station

The Partial Dismantling Plan has been approved by the Andalusian government for the infrastructures at the 'Litoral" thermal power plant in Carboneras, Almeria. This is subject to specification of which are "needed" in order to complete the Futur-e Plan projects to reduce the socio-economic impact on the area from the cessation.

Europa Press consulted the integrated environmental authorization. It indicated that the company plans to declare "the definitive" closure and "the ending of all actions in January 2028. The works were also planned in two temporary phases.

The duration of the demolition and dismantling tasks is "four years", except for soil remediation dues to contamination, while it is anticipated that the tasks related to closing the landfill will be completed in the "last quarter 2026".

According to the calendar, the company has been unable to obtain "all provisional acceptance certificate" for the dismantling of the plant, soil remediation, and closure of the waste disposal site.

In accordance with the resolution of the Territorial Delegation of Sustainable Development of the Board of Almeria, Endesa is required to present the plan for the complete dismantling of any infrastructures and facilities that are not yet removed in light of the Future plan.

Another project for the floors

It also mentions that soil remediation will be the topic of another project depending on the future site use, as well the closure of the ash dump, plaster, or slag dump.

The Coal Park facilities must be communicated to the company within three years. If the alternative is not being implemented, it must also disclose the exploitation plan.

It will only be partial because it excludes 11.25 hectares from the Parque De Carbones and non-hazardous refuse dump. However, it doesn't foresee demolishing both floors and pavements in streets and urbanizations. These facilities will be adjusted to meet the requirements of new Futur-e Plan projects.

Acuamed, the owner of Carboneras desalination plants, has agreed to maintain the supply system, seawater treatment, and seawater circulation systems.
