"Technical errors" in payroll payments - Foxconn apologizes

After the recent riots at a Foxconn plant because of overdue wages and strict corona restrictions, the company admits “technical errors” in the processing of new hires.

"Our team has investigated the matter and determined that a technical error occurred during the onboarding process," Foxconn said on Thursday. "We apologize for an input error in the computer system and guarantee that the actual payment corresponds to the agreed and official job advertisements."

Riots broke out at the Zhengzhou plant on Wednesday out of frustration over withheld wages and bonuses and the far-reaching corona restrictions. Foxconn confirmed "violence". These were rare scenes of open disagreement in China.

The Taiwanese company said it will try to allay concerns and meet workers' demands. Appropriate assistance will be offered to those who wish to return to their hometowns.

At the Zhengzhou production site, more than 200,000 employees produce Apple devices, including the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. According to an insider, production continued on Thursday.
